Jimmy Smith is quickly gaining recognition as one of the most versatile musicians on the music scene today. In demand as a trumpeter, composer, and arranger, Jimmy recently relocated to the Detroit area from New York City. He holds a Masters degree in jazz performance from The Aaron Copland School of Music, and is an alumni of The Berklee College of Music as well as Wayne State University. Also a music educator, Jimmy has held numerous artist in residence positions in the NYC public schools. In addition to being a member of the The Motor City Horns, Jimmy is also a member of the Latin band Saoco, and the Paul Keller Orchestra. Active in the local musical landscape, he has worked with a number of Jazz, Latin, Blues and Pop and Hip-Hop acts, including The Verve Pipe, Jimmy Heath, Jim Rotondi, Al Hill and the Love Butlers, Alberta Adams, The Temptations, Stewart Francke, Alexander Zonjic, (Kenny Flav's) Wayne Kounty, Frank Mantooth, Marcus Belgrave, and Chico O'Farrill's Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra.
